Hi.
I have 3 weeks off between jobs and I am really looking forward to getting some painting and modelling done. I've got a whole load of stuff I really want to get started on, and finish, and I thought that if I started a log here it might keep me on track.
Today I got to use my brand new airbrush for the first time. I've wanted one for ages and finally bought one. I built and undercoated a Valkyrie a long time ago and finally painted it today. The airbrush made it real easy. I've tried to give it a camo paint job. I'm pleased with my first go with the air brush.
My Elysian colour scheme, as you can see, is grey with tones of grey. ( I like grey). I'm gonna try and get this valkyrie finished along with a squad of men and a Tauros Venator before I get distracted by some marines or Bloodbowl figures.

Cheers :)

I decided I wanted to have some Penal troops and so I was rummaging in the bits box and have gone with the idea of units of Valkyrie/ Vendetta/Vulture pilots who's planes have been shot down, damaged and so are forced to act as a ground crew. I like the idea of a unit of pilots (penal troops) coming on behind enemy lines (scout usr) after being shot down. I've made up a heavy bolter crew aswell from cadian, catachan and Valkyrie gunner bits to represent them taking the heavy bolter from their downed gunship. I might do an infantry platoon of pilots.

Here is the vox-pilot that I painted last night. The idea is that he is not used to holding his las gun properly.

Last night I put together my Elysian Company Commander. I like the model as put together on forge world but Elysian officers are meant to lead from the front so I wanted him to have a more dynamic pose. In this case he has lowered his plasma pistol ( from the cadian upgrade sprue ) and his winding up for a power punch.
Today I stripped the tauros of the sprues, removed the flashing, soaked it in hot water, and glued it together. It is a great model to assemble and not nearly as tough as I assumed. The only changes I made were to add an aerial to the gun turret.

Here is my Elysian HQ painted. I haven't based him as I am not sure if I am gonna go rocks/dessert or metal plate to represent the boarding actions the Elysians are known for.
Any comments or criticism would be very much appreciated.

Is it just me, or is the power fist not as scary when it is on the arm of a imperial guardsman?

All in all the army is coming together well, but i oils suggest some color variation just to throw things up a bit... What in mean is maybe have specific parts of the model could be black. One example would be the power fist sgt. Perhaps the little pads on his shoulder/ legs could be black. It wouod help in not making the whole unit (once finished) from looking like a blob of one color... Again this is just a suggestion, so feel free to throw it out the window, after lighting it on fire.

Keep up the posting

Looking good so far. The valks scheme looks great. I really like the Elysian too. In fact they all look pretty damn good! Only crit, drill the barrels out, looks way better!

I don't know how I forgot about the shoulder pads!? I like the idea of doing them a different colour definitely. I think I might try red and do the regimental advisor body guards in black with the respirator heads to make them more sinister.
I really appreciate the advice and you taking the time to comment. Thanks :)

Thanks for the kind words. :) Good advice on the drilling. I've always been too scared to try it as I am a bit heavy handed. But after looking again at the heavy bolter it does ruin the model. I have a dremel so I'm gonna do it tomorrow. Cheers for the push.

Have done a couple more Elysians. One is the vox operator. The other is a quick go at an Elysian Harker stand in with compact heavy bolter. Not sure about it.

I have added the shoulder pads to my Commander and have gone with a contrasting red. As soon as I did it I liked it. But seeing the photos of the two models next to each other, I am leaning towards the original shoulder pad free guy.

Would very much welcome C and C on this please.

Have been busy. Only managed to put together an Elysian to be used as a body guard for my commander. Not the neatest of green stuffing I've done but I'll sort it out tomorrow.

I like the kneeling and pointing Elysian, the skin tone contrasts nicely with the clothing.

Wow, looking really nice, the body guard is sweet! Clean up the green stuffing and I think he'll be my favoirte, followed closely by the guy with the bolter!

Here is the Tauros painted up. I have still to do the detail on the crew and their controls. The camo scheme is not as visible in the photos as it is in real life. I might go over it again with the air brush because it is not as contrasting as it is on the Valkyrie at the moment.

So in preparation for BOLS con UK 2013 I'm trying to get moving in my Elysians.
Here is a Sky Talon and a Vulture sprayed up ready for painting.
It's not much of an update but I'm hoping it'll help me get in to gear.

Do it. I am currently using one I bought for £20 of ebay. I wanted to try one out and see if I like it before I spent the big bucks. I have decided that I am going to take the plunge though and spend the money on a good bit of kit. I have just sprayed up my Ravenwing bikers from the starter set and experimented with the airbrush on them. I'm not good at it but I'm pleased with the initial results. (photos to follow).
For this sort of camo effect you can't go wrong with an airbrush. Even with a dirt cheap one you can do simple bobbins like this without any hassle.
